Angels to Save Us In Our Sins

On fast Sunday an elderly sister went to the podium to bear her testimony.  She felt compelled to tell about her inactive son in Montana, and about the spiritual experience that he’d had.

He was hunting bears and turkeys in the mountains on his 4-wheeler.  He had to “go around a gate,” and when doing so a wheel locked up and the 4-wheeler flipped over, pinning him beneath it.  He was able to reach his phone, and called an acquaintance at the base of the mountain to come help him.

A couple arrived on the scene before the man that he’d called.  One of them was pregnant.  The other knew just what to do.  He hooked a chain onto the 4-wheeler and lifted it off the pinned man.  And then they left.

When the acquaintance from the base of the mountain arrived, they both marveled because he hadn’t met any other vehicles on his way up the mountain.  That was evidence that the pregnant lady and her companion were angels sent to help him in his distress.

I am left to wonder about pregnant angels and about the wisdom and propriety of trying to get around a locked gate that was probably accompanied by a “No Trespassing” sign.

An angel came to stop Alma and the sons of Mosiah when they were going about sinning; but one wonders about these angels who merely rescued the man from his self-inflicted predicament, and who failed to admonish him for his trespasses.

If the experience and the man’s broken ribs serve to activate him in the Church, that’s great.  But knowing what I know of his history, I think it unlikely.
