Astonishment

This morning I finished reading the book of Luke.  I am rereading the New Testament.  I am astonished all over again at the wisdom in the gospels, at the acts of Jesus, at His graciousness, at His sacrifice, at His love, and at the wonderful thing which Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John did when they determined to tell Jesus' story, and sat themselves down to record what they saw and what they knew.  Their words are powerful.  Their testimonies are believable.  Their words are life changing to those whose hearts and minds are open to the Spirit.

Matthew and Luke did the world a great favor by recording the circumstances of Jesus' birth.  Luke gave us the story of John the Baptist.  Matthew added the story of the wise men.  Matthew did such a perfect job of recording Jesus' Sermon on the Mount that it is nearly a perfect match to what Jesus spoke to the Nephites when He appeared in the Americas.  All of the gospel writers did an excellent job detailing the miracles and the teachings of Jesus.  Their testimonies match, and the story becomes unimpeachable.  One cannot read their words without being astonished.

If one wants to know Jesus Christ, one must read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  I love those four books plus the book of Acts.
