By Delores Wiggins, wife of Eugene H. Wiggins (Grandson)
4 September 1962
Born 15 December 1842 Gotland, Sweden. Daughter of Lars Fredrick Christianson Lindvall and Anna Gertrud Kulin. She was converted and baptized a member of the L.D.S. Church 11 June 1864 in Gotland, Sweden. Her parents did not embrace the gospel. She came to America on the ship "John Bright" with other converts and went to live in the home of Christopher Olsen Folkman, eight miles northwest of Ogden, now Plain City, Weber Co., Utah 24 August 1868.
Married 26 April 1869 in the Salt Lake Endowment House to Christopher Olsen Folkman. They were blessed with seven children: Elea Maria, Caroline Emealia, Christiane Catharine (Annie), Elizabeth Maxemelian, Joseph Maximilian, Louis Olsen, and Lowisa Frederica. The two last children died young.
She was a tall, well built woman of striking appearance. Her Swedish tongue was fluent, but she talked broken English. She was very refined, having worked in the homes of Royalty in Sweden, thus acquiring a taste for the beautiful.
She was an immaculate housekeeper, an excellent cook, and a good Mother. She loved her children. As she lived in polygamy it was necessary for her to labor for the support of her children. The food necessities were provided from her garden, strawberry patch, and fruit trees; farm animals provided the meat, milk and eggs. Most women worked hard in those days. She didn't have much but she knew how to put it together so it tasted good. She believed and obeyed the scriptures, "By the sweat of thy brow, thou shalt earn thy bread." Although she had a busy life she never forgot the beautiful. Her hobby was flowers. At one time she had over 1,000 varieties. Some of these bulbs she brought with her from Sweden.
The example she lived had an indelible mark on her children. They loved and respected their Parents. They patterned their lives after hers, true Latter-Day-Saints, looking upon work as a blessing and the gospel truly a Gift from God for their benefit and happiness.
Her life came to a close 24 December 1899. Memorial Services, Plain City L.D.S. Church, Internment Plain City Cemetery.
