Calling Good Evil
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.” (Isa. 5: 20).
The senior Baptist pastor at a church in Texas, a man named Jeffress, publicly attacked presidential candidate Mitt Romney because of his religion. He claims that Mitt Romney belongs to a cult. Jeffress was called to task for the comment by a news commentator who labeled the pastor “a bigot.” Jeffress objected to that label, asking why he was termed a bigot just for wanting a Christian to be president rather than a non-Christian.
Of the two men in question, one belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ. The other belongs to the Baptist’s church. Which is the Christian?
The answer is both of them. However, one is acting like a Christian, being kind, gentle and tolerant; and the other is not.
Moreover, one has authority to speak and act in the name of God, and the other does not.
Mr. Jeffress comes across as ignorant and biased to those who understand the truth. Pastor Jeffress has no authority to do or say anything in the name of Deity. A baptism performed by him would be like trying to bake a loaf of bread in a broken-down oven. The lump of dough would come out looking the same as it went in.
