How Could Anyone Have Been So Wrong
I want to tell you about two geologists, their discoveries, and the persecutions they endured because of what they knew.
Alfred Wegener was a German who observed that the shape of the east coast of South America matched the shape of the west coast of Africa. He wondered if the two continents could have once been connected.
The Character of God
Last evening I was told that my granddaughter, Maddie, has been asked by a Protestant pastor to preach in his service next Sunday. This came about because she and her missionary companion had done a follow-up contact to a man who had previously requested a Book of Mormon. The man turned out to be a pastor, and invited them to come back for dinner.

Turning Up the Lights
In 1941 electricity came to our farm west of Haines. I wasn’t around then. Prior to that time my parents lighted their house with kerosene lamps. Dad wired the old house, and hung a single light bulb from the ceiling in the center of each room. A string hung from the bulbs, which you pulled to turn on the lights. My 9-year-old sister and 7-year-old brother spent the next week entertaining themselves by going into a dark room, twirling in circles until their hands contacted and pulled the string, and then exclaiming, “How did we ever even see before?!!” The contrast between the light emitted by a kerosene lamp and a 75-watt bulb was dramatic.

High above the valley, atop a treeless ridge, one glimpses eternity. The view is vast and endless. God’s creations are exposed to view, and roll on and on until swallowed by distance.

Instruments in the Hands of God
There is a phrase repeated a dozen times in the Book of Mormon that needs to be explored. It was first used by Lehi who said that Nephi had been “an instrument in the hands of God” in bringing them to the land of promise. (2 Nephi 1:24). Lehi used the phrase again as he prophesied of the calling of Joseph Smith. (2 Nephi 3:24). The phrase, “instruments in the hands of God” was picked up and used by Alma and other prophets.

Several years ago Marjorie was invited by one of her piano students to attend her baptism in another church. The baptism was to be done following the pastor’s Easter sermon. Marjorie found the pastor and the sermon interesting. He was dressed in an Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts. He said that he had been reading the Bible, and had come to the conclusion that he thought that Jesus was a God.

When I got out of bed at 5:45, I looked out the back window and noticed a long, narrow strip of sunlight across the lawn. It was perhaps 6-inches wide, and two dozen feet long. It was made by the light of the rising sun coming in the north side of our east window and exiting through the south side of our west window. The sun now rises (3 May) toward the north. As the sun gets higher in the sky it moves south and makes an arc across the sky.

I learned something in the deacons quorum lesson that I taught today.
When I first read the Book of Mormon as a non-member, I read the whole book looking for the answer to a particular question without finding it. The question that I had was this: Is God one person or two?
Stranded on Earth
Death is the surest evidence that our Father loves us. He knows us and remembers us. He does not leave us stranded here on earth.

Someone recently made the statement that evolution is a religion. As I think about it, I agree that the theory of evolution certainly carries all the signs of a false religion.
