Dementia
Ivy and I headed for the front gate this morning to watch the rising of the sun. We found Ellen just arriving. She knew that I’d be there, since this is the equinox, and since the sun would be rising in the east perfectly in line with our county road.

Ivy and Joseph and their six children moved in with us this week. They then went to a 4-day, 3-night family reunion at Dayton, Washington. As they left, Nathan and Leslie and three kids came for a 4-day visit.
My main goal these days is to maintain a “simple and consistent environment” for Marjorie. Her mind is deteriorating. This week has been confusing for her. Some of her questions this week are disturbing:
Dementia Forebodings
Serving as an ordinance worker in the temple was the best calling I ever had. I served for a total of 10 years. We served in both the Boise and Meridian Temples. It became necessary for us to be released in 2021 when Marjorie went back to the temple as the COVID-19 closure was lifted, and discovered that her dementia had progressed to the point that she could not remember what she was supposed to do. Among other things she had forgotten the veil ceremony. By going to the temple weekly she has since regained most of the veil ceremony, but still needs some help at the veil.

I foresee that Marjorie’s developing dementia is going to be fertile ground for fun tales. Hopefully we can continue to laugh about them.
Last week we were looking at one of her flower gardens when she declared, “I need to water that peony!” She headed for the house, presumably to get a pitcher of water.

Nathan asked for a 4-color puzzle as a game to play at Elijah’s birthday party.
Preparation
Make 16 cards, and write the name of one of the 16 variables on each. Give the cards to the boys with the following instructions.
By Small and Simple Things
I am at loose ends and confused this morning. I don’t know what to do. I reached my goal yesterday of indexing general conference talks, and have no more to do. I’m a creature of habit, and this is going to upset my whole daily routine.
