Christ Has Come

Prophets of old foretold the coming of Jesus Christ to atone for the sins of the world.  They prophesied that He would come as a baby to a virgin named Mary, and be born in a humble stable in the City of David in the land of Judea.  They prophesied that a new star would arise to announce His birth.  The prophets said that He would be baptized of John, and that He would go forth teaching the people, healing the sick, raising the dead, and that He would be rejected by the people.  It was prophesied that the Jews and the Gentiles would both consent to His death, and that they would kill Him.  It was prophesied that He would be crucified and that His body would lie in the tomb for three days.

All of these things, and many events of His life, were seen by prophets, and were foretold many hundreds of years before His birth.  They all came to pass.

Jesus came.  Jesus allowed Himself to be killed, and then He came again.  Because He was the Son of God, and because He had led a life free of sin, He was able to come back and to take His body again.  He was resurrected.  He came forth from the tomb a living, immortal man.  He is God.  He lives today.  He still has His body.  He will never die again.  Because of His Atonement and because of His resurrection, each of us will one day be resurrected, too.  We will each get our bodies back again.

Because He came the first time, we all have the opportunity to be cleansed from our sins.  Jesus took them on conditions of our repentance.

Because He came the second time, we will all be resurrected.  This is His great free gift to all mankind.

All of this is well documented.  There were many, many witnesses.  Poor shepherds and rich kings all testified of His birth.  His Apostles and His disciples wrote of His life, His teachings, of the healings He performed, and of His raising Lazarus, the young daughter of Jairus, and of the widow’s son from the dead.

When He was resurrected, the first person to see Him was a woman—Mary.  Then He was seen by all of the Apostles, and by another 500 people at one time.  All of this is well documented.  His disciples wrote of these things, and we have their testimonies in the Bible.

Jesus came a third time.  Before His death He told the Jews, “Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:  them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”  (John 10:16).

We now have another testament of Jesus Christ.  In The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, we have an account written by prophets on the American continent that tells of Jesus’ visit to His people there.  This time He descended out of heaven, clothed in a white robe, and was seen of 2,500 people.  (3 Ne. 11:8).  He told them, “…verily I say unto you, that ye are they of whom I said:  “Other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”  (3 Ne. 15:21).

He ministered to them all that day, teaching them, healing them, and allowing each one to feel the wounds in His hands and in His feet.  He told them to go home, and to ponder on the things they’d heard, and that He would return the next day to teach them more.

Many people labored all that night to be in the place on the morrow where Jesus said that He would appear.  A very great multitude was gathered the next day when Jesus came and again taught and ministered to the people.  All of this is well documented in The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  Anyone can read the book, and know for himself that this really happened.

Jesus came a fourth time.  This time it was to a young boy in the state of New York in America in the year 1820.  Jesus and the Father came as the young man, Joseph Smith, was praying to know which church was true.  Jesus told Joseph that He had a work for him to do.  First he was to translate the ancient records that we now have as The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  Then he was to restore the Church with all of the authority, gifts, powers, and teachings that had been in the Church at the beginning.

All of this is well documented.  You have The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ as evidence that it happened.  You can hold it in your hand.  You can read it.  You can find out for yourself that this is true.  You can pray about what you read, and the promise of the prophets is that “…when ye shall read these things…I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

“And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”  (Moroni 10:3-5).

I testify to you that I have done that.  I testify that these things are true.  I testify that Jesus lives.  I testify that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are testaments of Jesus Christ, and that they work together to prove the divinity of Jesus Christ.  Both of these books testify that Jesus will come again.  He is coming one more time.  Both of these books testify that the time is near.  He will come to you and me.  “And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together…”  (Isa. 40:5).

Both books say that it will be a “great and dreadful day.”  (Malachi 4:5 and 3 Ne. 25:5).  It will be a great day for those who are looking for Him to come, who have repented of their sins, and who are ready for that great day to occur.  It will be a dreadful day for those who have rejected or ignored Him.

I testify that there is no greater message nor no more important thing for mankind to know than that Jesus has already come at least four times, and that very soon He will come again.
