Covenants
Covenants: | Covenants are: |
Keep me safe | A safety belt |
Give me peace | A restraint from sin |
Bring me joy | A kite string |
Open the portals of heaven | A compass |
Bind me to the Lord | An anchor |
Bind my family to me | A magnet |
Give me direction | A map |
Develop my character | Sustenance |
Teach me all things | Keys |
Elevate my thinking | An elevator |
Make me free | A comfort |
Make me capable | A door |
Pity the man who has no covenants to guide him.
- He is without immunization, and is exposed to every affliction, disease, and pitfall.
- He is a ship adrift in a storm with neither helm, rudder, anchor, nor captain.
- He is in a desert where there is no rain to cool and sustain him or to quench his thirst.
- He is headed for a crash.
- He will be alone.
- He is fettered and chained, a slave, and a captive.
- He is without hope and without happiness.
- He is without understanding.
- He is lost.
- He is starving.
- He has wasted his life and frustrated the purpose of his creation.
- He is a disappointment to himself and to his Father.
- Covenants are our purpose in coming to earth.
- Covenants are my most valuable possessions.
- Covenants are the treasure that all are seeking, but few find because they don’t recognize them for what they are.
- Covenants cut chains, free captives, and open thoughts, vistas, and opportunities.
- Covenants are a sunrise to the soul.
My covenants are:
- Baptism and confirmation
- I covenanted to always remember Him, my Savior.
- I covenanted to keep His commandments.
- I covenanted to always have His Spirit with me.
- I covenanted to bear others’ burdens, to mourn with those that mourn, to comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that I may be in, even until death. (Mosiah 18:8-9). In other words, I covenanted to always think of others before myself.
- To receive and to magnify the Priesthood.
- The temple endowment.
- Temple sealings to my parents, wife, children, ancestors, and posterity.
My blessings are great. So are my responsibilities. So is my joy and my opportunities and my outlook. I am the most blessed and least deserving of all men.
Covenants are my lifeline,
Covenants are my friend,
Covenants give me safety
Until my happy end.
Covenants give me comfort,
Covenants give me peace,
Covenants cut the fetters
Enabling my release.
Covenants open portals,
Covenants cut off sin,
Covenants open doorways
Through which I enter in.
Covenants give me fam’ly,
Covenants make me me,
Covenants are an anchor
And bind eternally.
Covenants are a compass,
Covenants are a map,
Covenants give me guidance
And keep me from mishap.
