For Good and Evil
As I was reading the Book of Mormon I was struck by the uses to which the river Sidon was put. In Alma 2:34 it became the receptacle for the many thousands of Lamanite bodies killed in battle. In Alma 4:4-5 the same river was used by Alma to baptize 3,500 people.
The Sidon River was like the Internet. The Internet is likewise used for good and for evil. If the truth were known, we would find that the Internet was invented for the purpose of hastening the Lord’s work—particularly that of family history and temple work. Genealogical research and pornography are the top two uses of the Internet.
The Sidon River became the cleansing agent for many souls as they had their sins washed away in the waters of baptism. Similarly, the Internet has opened the way for millions upon millions of people to be identified and baptized for the remission of their sins.
The Sidon River became the dispose-all for the putrefying bodies of the Lamanites. In a similar fashion the Internet becomes a dispose-all for the souls of those who become trapped in mind-changing addictions that are more difficult to overcome than tobacco and alcohol.
