God Will Not Be Thwarted

It is estimated that there are about 7,000 languages in the world.  Many others have gone extinct.  The question is asked, “Why so many?  How did this happen?”

The short answer is the Tower of Babel.  The people were all of one language.  Their recent ancestors had been the survivors of a cataclysmic flood.  To prevent God from ever being able to wipe out their wicked society again, it occurred to their leaders that they could build a gigantic tower high enough to get above any future flood.  They knew that their activities were the same ones that had brought on the Flood, so in their wisdom they devised a plan to circumvent any plans that God might have to drown them, also.

It would have been easier to repent, but that's not the way that a wicked mind works.  Wicked minds, inspired by the evil one, seek instead to devise ways to outsmart God.  But God will not be thwarted.

The evil rulers who organized the people into work gangs to build this ambitious public works project were either unaware of the Lord's promise to Noah that He would never again destroy the world with a flood, or else they didn't trust God to keep His word.  They chose instead to persist in their wickedness.

In His infinite patience, God gave these ignorant people another chance.  He confounded their language so that they couldn't understand one another.  That prevented them from working unitedly on their futile project.  The people separated into tribes, and scattered over the earth.  Some of those tribes did better than others.  The ones that devolved sufficiently far into violence, immorality, and general wickedness reached a point of being irredeemable.  When repentance was no longer possible, that society had to be ended.

Thus the Jaredites almost became extinct in the days of Jared, the son of Omer.  All but 30 people, plus the house of Omer, were destroyed in a great civil war that lasted many years.  (Ether 9:12).

The Jaredite civilization subsequently grew into a society numbering in the millions (Ether 15:2), but again became wicked, and completely destroyed itself in another giant civil war.

There were seven nations inhabiting the land of Canaan when Moses brought the children of Israel out of Egypt.  They, too, reached an irredeemable state.  They promoted prostitution and child sacrifice, two practices that are disturbingly common today.  God commanded the children of Israel to wipe out those seven nations, and gave the land to them.

God will neither be thwarted nor mocked.  The children of Israel made covenants with God that they would keep His commandments and not do as the people before them had done.  Segments of their society forgot the covenants and mocked God by descending so low that they, too, had to be wiped out to keep the contagion of their practices from spreading.  Sodom and Gomorrah became so steeped in violence and homosexuality that the Lord had to send fire and brimstone to cleanse the region.

The Nephites became sufficiently wicked in the days of the first Mosiah that “the more wicked part of the Nephites were destroyed (Omni 1:5), and Mosiah led the righteous off to Zarahemla (Omni 1:12).

At the time of Christ's crucifixion the wicked in the Americas were destroyed by their cities being burned, sunk in the ocean, sunk in the earth, or by their being buried under mountains.  It was because they had stoned and killed the prophets, and drove the righteous out of their midst.  (3 Nephi 9:10-11).

The Lord has an infinite number of ways to get our attention, and to make His will known.  He is currently pleading with us to repent, and to remember Him and His covenants.  Immorality, abortion, and violence are so rampant among us that God has threatened to unleash plagues, sicknesses, the sword, and fire to clean things up.

God will neither be thwarted, circumvented, nor mocked.  People and their leaders are trying to circumvent His purposes and are openly mocking Him.  It won't work, and it won't be permitted.  They're stupidly playing with fire as they promote their evil agendas.

The Lord's purpose is to transfer His children from the spirit world to mortality; to organize them into happy, stable families; and to help them come to a state of repentance, knowledge, and worthiness so that they can return to His presence.

Abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, transgenderism, and birth prevention are hot-button issues that run counter to God's purposes and plan.  They will not be allowed to stand.  The ignorant people who promote them have a chance to repent before they're declared irredeemable.  They and the author of their ideas are seeking to thwart God's plan.  They're trying to circumvent it with their own.  They're mocking God.  Their ideology is so rampant that retribution is near at hand.
