Ignoramuses
Half a dozen times in the Doctrine and Covenants Jesus says, “I am the light which shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.” (D&C 6:21).
He says, too, “And when the times of the Gentiles is come in, a light shall break forth among them that sit in darkness, and it shall be the fulness of my gospel;
“But they receive it not; for they perceive not the light...” (D&C 45: 28-29).
How is it possible to not perceive a bright light in the same room with you? That requires conscious thought and action. Jesus is the light. His gospel is a light. The Church is a light. Its members are lights. The Book of Mormon is a beacon leading honest men and women to Jesus Christ and to His marvelous plan of happiness.
The Church is well-established and everywhere present throughout the Americas and Europe; yet the vast majority of people ignore it, with some choosing to even actively oppose it.
It fills me with great sadness to have anyone missing out on the joys that I partake of daily. How can they ignore the light that’s being held out to them? How is it that people are working so hard to take Christ out of Christmas, out of our schools, and out of public life? It is no longer politically correct to wish people a merry Christmas. “Happy holidays” is the term we’re to use instead.
It’s suddenly impossible to find traditional Christmas carols being played on the radio. School Christmas programs are the same. Christ cannot be mentioned for fear of offending some non-believer. Fingers everywhere are pointed at religion as being the cause of wars, terrorism, and the world’s troubles.
This is ignorance at its worst. People are willfully ignoring Christ. The consequences are enormous.
To ignore is to deliberately take no notice of, or to fail to consider something important.
Ignorance is a lack of knowledge or information.
An ignoramus is an ignorant or stupid person.
This world is full of ignoramuses. Some of us are desperately trying to shine the gospel light in their eyes, but their eyes are deliberately closed.
