Introduction
I realize that I'm a pretty dead stick. I don't have toys like everyone else has. I'm not interested in balls and sports. I don't have a boat or skis or 4-wheelers. But I do like to write.
Perhaps the most fun thing that I do is to get an idea for a talk or an article and to develop it into a coherent, instructive, inspirational, motivational essay. The Spirit is generally present and is guiding me in my thoughts and in the placement of the words. I'm learning as I go. I'm coming up with thoughts that I'd never had before. It's hugely exciting.
To be able to write in such a manner has always been my desire. I recall wanting to write something profound in high school. I tried, but the result was very disappointing. What I lacked was the Spirit. That was before I had the gift of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost develops one. The gift of the Holy Ghost refines one, and helps develop one's talents. I can tell when the Holy Ghost is prompting me because new thoughts flow into my mind.
I was thinking that my book, I Have No Greater Joy, would be my last. However, thoughts keep coming, and I now (1 May 2019) have over 60 pages of articles collected together in an unnamed book. The reason that I write is for the benefit of my posterity. I'm hoping that these things will be useful and used.
I've been looking for a good title for these articles that might become another book. Last night as I read the Book of Mormon I found it. "And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom," Alma said to Shiblon (Alma 38:9). I think that there is a lot of Holy Ghost-inspired wisdom in the things that I write, and I've written them for my sons and my daughters of future generations. There is nothing more important than the gospel of Jesus Christ, and nearly all of my articles and thoughts are centered on Him. I'm hopeful that these things will help to bring my family to Jesus Christ.
Continuing Alma's words, he said, "...that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world.."
I love Jesus Christ. Everything that I have or hope to be is because of Him. What He has done for us is unfathomable. The longer I live and the more experiences that I have, the more in awe I become of Him and His work. My desire is that each of my children and grandchildren of every generation will come to realize their complete dependence upon our Savior and His Atonement. The Restoration of the gospel is real. The gathering of Israel prior to the Lord's Second Coming is the greatest undertaking in the history of the world. We're a part of it. My writings are my contribution. My hope is that they will be the means of bringing my posterity closer to their Savior and Redeemer.
