Joseph of Egypt
Our ever-so-great grandfather, Joseph, who was sold by his brothers to be a slave in Egypt, was tried on every level. He went from being his father's favorite son, to being a lowly slave, to being overseer of all his master's household and goods, to being a common prisoner, to being head prisoner, to being placed as second in command over all of Egypt.
His last position might have been the biggest trial of all. Power, fame, and fortune most often lead to pride. Joseph rose to the top in every situation into which he was placed, and did not allow his successes to corrupt his mind or morals.
Through it all he was a prophet in training, and never lost sight of that fact, or allowed discouragement and setbacks to derail him. He talked with the Lord (2 Nephi 3:7), saw the future (vs. 5, 14-17), wrote some of the greatest prophecies (2 Nephi 4:2), and left behind a large body of writings which we don't yet have. I long to read them.
Our ever-so-great grandfather was great in many, many ways. He is worthy of our admiration and emulation.
