MY DERMATOLOGICAL EXPERIENCE

I had an appointment at Snake River Dermatology in Fruitland, Idaho. I was first interviewed by a male assistant who made a record of my information. A female dermatologist with polka-dot-painted nails then entered. As we visited I asked what she thought of my home remedy treatment. She asked, "What treatment?" (She hadn't bothered to look at the record her assistant had made). I explained that to control my rosacea I wipe my face with vinegar each night. She didn't think that could have any effect since my rosacea was genetic, and not caused by a microorganism. She said she would give me a prescription, that I was to take it for two months, and to come back for another appointment. If this hadn't worked, we'd try something else. (That seemed to say, "I don't expect that you'll see any difference, but I want you to keep coming back").

"And if you have any questions, feel free to call me at any time."

The prescription I was given was for an antibiotic to be taken for two months. That contrasted with what she'd said about the cause of rosacea, so I attempted to call her for an explanation. Her busy receptionist curtly answered my call with the words, "Can you please hold?'

"Sure," I said. I held for several minutes, and was then cut off. I tried again. This time I got a recording. I left a message asking for the lady to call me. A couple of days passed. So much for feeling free to call her at any time. After I'd given up on hearing from her, the assistant called. His answers weren't satisfying..

Having no confidence in these people, I didn't fill the prescription. I called to cancel the appointment that I'd been given two months hence. My call was answered with a curt "Can you please hold?"

"Sure," I said. I held for several minutes, and was then cut off.

(When I paid the bill I sent this along with the payment so that they'd know to cancel my appointment.)
