Mothers

To be sung to the tune of

"God of Our Fathers, Known of Old," Hymns #76 and 77.

The chorus is by Rudyard Kipling.

Our mothers past have toiled and prayed

Have labored long through all their days

Have sacrificed to give us birth

That we might have our place on earth.

Chorus:

Lord God of Hosts, Be with us yet,

Lest we forget, Lest we forget.

Our mothers present have done no less

To earn their families eternal rest

They've brought great joy into our lives

For they are our eternal wives.

Chorus

Our mothers future are the girls

That we have brought into the world

That in their time they all may be

Mothers of our posterity.

Chorus

Ye men and brethren pay ye heed

Of all our mothers we have need

For ye'll not gain eternal lives

Without your mothers, daughters, wives.

Chorus

I was asked to sing a solo in church for Mother's Day, 1979,

so I wrote and sang this one.
