My Father Trusts Me

My Father trusts me.

He has given me

one of His most cherished possessions

to have forever.

Of His fair and noble daughters

He has bestowed upon me

one of His choicest.

I cannot comprehend the depth

of the responsibility I bear

by taking this girl to wife.

For if the worth of souls

is great in His sight,

how must He yearn

for one so sweet?

(Imagine, mind,

if you dare,

How He must love YOU!)

Oh, that I may have the wisdom

to swell her heart with joy.

May I have the knowledge

to make her a happy home,

And the inspiration

that we may progress together.

May I have the understanding

to treat her as I should,

And the presence of mind

to ever remember who she is.

When at last this life ends

May she be proud she married me.

Oh, that I may be able

to present her back to God

as pure and white

as the day she left Him.

May He allow her

to dwell with me forever.
