NUTSHELL TRUTH, CONCENTRATED WISDOM, INSIGHTFUL THINKING

A Catholic theologian once said, "You Mormons are all ignoramuses. You don’t even know the strength of your own position. It is so strong that there is only one other tenable in the whole Christian world, and that is the position of the Catholic Church. The issue is between Catholicism and Mormonism. If we are right, you are wrong; if you are right, we are wrong; and that’s all there is to it. The Protestants haven’t a leg to stand on. If we are wrong, they are wrong with us, for they were a part of us and went out from us; while if we are right, they are apostates whom we cut off long ago. If we really have, as we claim, the apostolic succession from St. Peter, there was no need for Joseph Smith and Mormonism; but if we have not that succession, then such a man as Joseph Smith was necessary, and Mormonism’s attitude is the only consistent one. It is either the perpetuation of the Gospel from ancient times, or the restoration of the Gospel in latter days.”

(John M. Reiner as quoted by Orson F. Whitney).

"The Mormon people teach the American religion; their principles teach the people not only of Heaven and its attendant glories, but how to live so that their social and economic relations with each other are placed on a sound basis. If the people follow the teachings of this Church, nothing can stop their progress — it will be limitless. There have been great movements started in the past but they have died or been modified before they reached maturity. If Mormonism is able to endure, unmodified, until it reaches the third and fourth generation, it is destined to become the greatest power the world has ever known.”

(Count Leo Tolstoy).

"You know no more concerning the destinies of this Church and kingdom than a babe upon its mother’s lap. You don’t comprehend it. . .  . It is only a little handful of Priesthood you see here tonight, but this Church will fill North and South America—it will fill the world."

(Joseph Smith).

"I stand with my own great-grandfather, who said simply enough, 'No wicked man could write such a book as this (the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ); and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.'”

(Jeffrey R. Holland quoting George Cannon).

"Years ago my great-great-grandfather picked up a copy of the Book of Mormon for the first time. He opened it to the center and read a few pages. He then declared, 'That book was either written by God or the devil, and I am going to find out who wrote it.' He read it through twice in the next 10 days and then declared, 'The devil could not have written it—it must be from God.'”

(Tad R. Callister quoting Willard Richards).

"Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy." (Lehi in 2 Nephi 2:25).

With thoughtless and impatient hands

We tangle up the plans

The Lord hath wrought.

And when we cry in pain He saith,

"Be quiet, man, while I untie the knot."
