Obituary of Janet B. Kerns

Janet Bernice Kerns, age 71, passed away November 24, 1982 at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande, Oregon after a short illness.

She was born November 7, 1911 in Eugene, Oregon, the daughter of Elwin A. and Bernice Adams McCornack.  She graduated from high school in Eugene, and attended Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.

Janet Married Tom L. Kerns September 5, 1931 in Eugene.  Their early married life was spent on a ranch at Parkman, Wyoming.  In 1939 they purchased a farm at Haines, Oregon and lived there continuously from that time.

Janet is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters Jean Griffith of Grangeville, Idaho and Ellen Stevenson of Haines; sons Tom (Mac) Kerns of Alexandria, Virginia, and Tim and James Kerns, both of Haines.  She is also survived by 11 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 3 great grandsons, and 2 great granddaughters.  Her brothers, Andrew McCornack of Winter Haven, Florida, and Terry McCornack of Harrisburg, Oregon survive her also.  Her brother, Rod, preceded her in death.

The funeral was held Friday, November 26, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of Gray’s West and Co.  The services were conducted by her family.  Interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery at Haines, Oregon.
