Only Forgotten Son
Last week in sacrament meeting the primary did their annual sacrament meeting program. It was the responsibility of one little girl to quote John 3:16. She stood at the podium and repeated into the microphone the words that were whispered into her ear by her prompter. She said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only forgotten son..."
No one corrected her, and therein I felt the inspiration for a future church talk. How many people in the world feel like "his only forgotten son?" I think they're all around us—abandoned, unloved, without hope, and alone. Our mission is to convince people of their worth, to teach them that they are sons and daughters of God, and that they're potential heirs of "all that the Father hath." (D&C 84).
Ivy says that if she was using “his only forgotten son" as the text for a church talk, she would take it a different direction. She thinks that Jesus has been forgotten by much of the world. He has been taken out of the schools, banned by the government, sued by atheists, and vilified by every unthinking person who takes His name in vain.
