Our Purposes on Earth
Our purposes in coming to earth were to get a body, to make and keep covenants, and to form an eternal family.
Connected with these purposes are my most valuable possessions, all of which will be mine through the eternities. No one can take them from me. They can only be lost if I allow it. My most valuable possessions are my testimony, my priesthood, my covenants, my family, my knowledge, and my body.
These are mine eternally, but without vigilance they can be lost. Even this precious body can become possessed by another if I choose to sin and forsake my covenants.
Our bodies are precious things. After death we will look upon the absence of our spirits from our bodies as a bondage. (D&C 45:17). With our bodies we can do many wonderful things, and having become used to doing those things, we’re going to greatly miss our bodies when we go to the spirit world.
Our bodies enable us to become like our Father in heaven. Why on earth would anyone desire to deface their temples with graffiti, or make piercings in them; or put in them substances that weaken, wound, and defile? These are things that I cannot comprehend.
I am grateful for these inestimable gifts that the Father has given me. I’m doing my best to safeguard them. I want to keep them. These are the things that will return me to Him. And they have all come to me because of and through the Atonement of my Savior.
