Parable of the Reluctant Worker
James’ Fables
There was once a long trailer with no load, and seven small wheels on each side. Being small, the wheels had to turn very fast indeed to keep up with the big truck that was pulling it. Six tires on each side worked very hard; but the lead wheel had no weight on it, and didn’t even touch the ground. Each of the six followers had his head bent, his heart engaged, and was single-mindedly intent on the task of moving the trailer ahead. Their leader, however, was off the road, above them, and only made a pretense of working. He idly made one rotation to his companions’ 20. He dawdled, while the six wheels valiantly pushed their organization ahead.
Application:
The lazy one carried no load. He was a drone and a pretender.
He was the home teacher who won’t go.
He was the missionary who works only reluctantly.
He was the member who refuses the call.
He is the terrestrial candidate who is not valiant.
