Parable of the White Shirts
James’ Fables
There was once a man and his wife with a house full of boys. The man and his boys worked hard and played hard, and were very hard on their clothes. They were good men. On Saturday night they bathed, and on Sunday morning they put on their white shirts and went to church.
In ways that were mysterious to them, the collars and cuffs of their white shirts became dirty, and even black. On the rare occasions when they noticed this, they put their shirts in the laundry. Usually someone else did it for them.
Magically, the next time they wanted their white shirts, they reached in their closets and found them hanging there fresh, clean, washed, ironed, and sparkling white. Little thought and thanks did they give to the redeemer who lived among them, and who always scrubbed their collars and cuffs by hand before putting their white shirts in the wash. Little did they think how wrinkled, dirty, and unkempt they would appear if it were not for the redeemer who lived among them.
Application: What the woman does for soiled clothes,
The Redeemer does for soiled souls.
