Parable of the Worthless Coat

James’ Fables

There was once a woman with a beautiful, down-filled, red coat.  The coat was perfect in every way except that the zipper didn’t work.  The weather was very cold.  The woman longed to wear the coat, but it was unwearable and useless.  It was good for nothing but to be cast into the fire.

“It grieveth me that I should lose this coat,” the woman thought; so after much labor she removed the old zipper and installed a new one.  The coat was saved from the fire, became useful again, and was again worn on the coldest days.

With much satisfaction the woman said to herself, “For a long time now will I wear this coat upon myself against the cold season, which speedily cometh.”

Application:     What the woman did to the coat,

The Redeemer does to souls.
