The First Convert

While reading the story of king Lamoni's conversion, it occurred to me that he was likely the first Lamanite convert to Christianity in their 500-year history.  His conversion was the catalyst that led to the conversion of thousands more.

Those were the first thoughts that came to me.  Then I realized that I was mistaken.  What about Abish?  Her conversion preceded Lamoni's.  Abish was the servant of Lamoni's wife, the queen.  Abish had previously been converted due to a remarkable vision of her father's.  Perhaps Abish's father was the first convert.  Perhaps Abish's father had a group of followers that consisted of his children, and maybe others.

Alma the elder was a first convert among his people, too.  His conversion led to the conversion of hundreds more.  Amulek occupies a similar position among the people of Ammonihah.

I am the first convert in my family.  That has enabled me to teach my children, and to provide temple ordinances for many hundreds of my ancestors.

Lamoni, Alma, Amulek, and I have been privileged to be in the vanguard of some great conversion movements.  The one initiated by my conversion is ongoing and widening.
