The Old Headlight
I just awoke from a dream which has a good enough moral that it deserves recording. In the dream I was given a last-minute assignment to give a talk to a group of people. What should I speak on? No topic was given, but I felt impressed to go to an old barn where I felt that I’d find a visual aid that would help me.
I went clear through the tumble-down barn with its dirt, mud, and rusty nails that I had to be careful to not step on. There wasn’t a thing that was capable of inspiring a talk. The only item I found was a plastic bag with what felt like the old headlight from a car inside.
“This is worthless,” I thought, “and of no help.”
I started to toss it aside, but the Spirit whispered, “Take it along, just in case.”
So I made my way back through the nails and muck, and took my visual aid to the house. As I removed it from the sack I wondered, “What good is this? What does it demonstrate?”
A voice came into my mind which explained that the headlight used to be very useful, and full of light. It lit the way, and lighted the world. It used to be bright and helpful. Being unplugged now from its source of power it was useless, and good for nothing but the refuse bin. It was like an apostate who used to be helpful and full of light, but who became unplugged from his source of power, and now had no light in him.
