Priesthood lesson given to Lovutialau Branch

Objective:  Each man will honor his Priesthood, overcome his fright about using it, and make himself worthy.

Materials needed:  Olive oil, small containers, chalk, marker, posters

  1. What is the strongest power or force in the world?
    1. Lightning/Thunder
    2. Earthquake
    3. Tides/Waves/Tsunami
    4. Wind/Cyclone
    5. Fire
    6. Gravity
    7. Volcano
    8. Atomic

    1. What is the Priesthood?
      1. The authority to act in the name of God
    2. How does the Priesthood work?
      1. By faith
    3. How do we know that Priesthood is the greatest power?
      1. Jesus used it to create the earth
      2. He used it to still the storm
      3. He used it to send the earthquake that released Alma and Amulek from prison
      4. He used it to send the exceedingly sharp lightnings that caused Zarahemla to burn
      5. He used it when He came to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the furnace
      6. Moroni used it when he visited Joseph and ascended again to heaven
      7. Moses used it to divide the Red Sea
      8. The Brother of Jared used it to move a mountain
    4. Who can hold the Priesthood?
      1. Every worthy man
    5. How many of you hold the Aaronic Priesthood? (All)
      1. What power—what keys—are held by the Aaronic Priesthood?
        1. Ministering of angels
          1. D&C 84:42

        2. Repentance
        3. Baptism
      2. If you are worthy, then angels are watching over you
        1. How can you be worthy?
          1. Keep all commandments
          2. Take sacrament weekly
          3. Use your Priesthood when asked to do so

      1. Priesthood is given so that you can serve others
      2. What if the branch president asks you to teach a class?
        Can you say no?
      3. What if the branch president asks you to speak in church?
        Can you say no?
      4. What if your wife asks you to give her a Priesthood blessing?
  3. How do you consecrate oil?
    1. Do it
    2. Why do we give Priesthood blessings?
      1. For comfort and direction
      2. In time of illness
    3. How do you give a Priesthood blessing for illness?
      1. Remember, you are acting for God
      2. He will give you the thoughts
      3. You put the thoughts into words
      4. It is His blessing, not yours
      5. Do it. “Are there any sick among you?”  (The men brought in a young girl  and administered to her as I instructed them).
