THE STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD
When he was in high school my granddaughter's husband bench pressed 650 pounds. After 10 years have passed that's still the record at his high school. Another granddaughter's husband was the state wrestling champion. His picture is still on display in the trophy case at his high school. These are impressive records, representing the best and the strongest; but there is Another who outdoes them all in every category. Jesus Christ is the supreme person and the ultimate example in every category.
I once read an article by a misguided and ignorant person who postulated that Jesus was effeminate. That idea is not only ignorant, but blasphemous. Yesterday as I worked, I argued with that person in my mind. To my mind, Jesus Christ was the strongest man in the world. In the Garden of Gethsemane and upon the cross He did something that no one else could do. He there took upon Himself the combined pains, afflictions, sicknesses, infirmities, and sins of all the world. (Alma 7:11-13). That feat was so vast, incomprehensible, and complete that it caused Him to bleed from every pore. We can't imagine such pressure. No one else could have done what He did.
An ignorant person is one who ignores what Jesus Christ did. Jesus Christ is not only the strongest man in the world, but also the wisest, the smartest, the most compassionate and kindest, and the greatest. It is crucial that every person who has ever lived must come to the knowledge of what Jesus has done for him. It is crucial that we all repent. accept Him, love Him, and keep His commandments. He explained it best when He said:
"Therefore I command you to repent--repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore--how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.
"For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;
"But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;
"Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit--and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink--
"Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men.
"Wherefore, I command you again to repent, lest I humble you with my almighty power..." (Doctrine and Covenants 19:15-20).
This is also the Person who walked on water, who created the earth, who knows all things, and who is going to come in the clouds of heaven and appear to men on earth just as He did among the Nephites following His Resurrection.
This is the Man who stands supreme above all others in every category. This is the Man that we emulate and worship.
