Thoughts Upon a Grandchild
Life and creation are miracles
That I have contemplated
As I’ve held my 10 newborn babies.
It has been my privilege
To do the same with 50 grandchildren.
Now I’m 71,
And wonder of wonders,
Here I am holding my great grandson,
The first one,
While his mother tries to get
Some needed sleep.
He looks around,
He fusses, stretches, goes to sleep, and smiles.
And I smile, too.
He’s the first of many;
250 more are coming.
I need these children:
They’re the source of my joy.
They’re my future.
The world needs these children:
It would be lost without them.
They’re destined to save it.
Their parents are faithful;
They’re in the know;
They’ll teach their posterity,
Who will teach the world,
And lead it into the eternities
Where we will be together,
In joy,
Forever and ever.
