Wakeful Night

I love to hear you sleeping

As we lie here in the dark,

While I the watch am keeping,

And the pass of time do mark.

I love to hear you breathing

As you quietly sleep in peace;

My mind is sweet thoughts weaving

With feelings that won't cease.

I love to have you thoughtless,

Without a worry or care;

It brings sensations priceless,

As I feel you sleeping there.

I could arise and do things,

But you're centered in my mind;

And I can think of nothing

That can better use my time.

There's nowhere more important,

Or another place I'd be,

Where I could gain such comfort,

And such sweet security.
