What Think Ye of Christ?
(Matthew 22:42)
(Elder Michael John U. Teh in his April 2021 conference address told of an assignment given to him to write a one-page summary about the relevance and importance of the Atonement. That is a great challenge. Here is my attempt:)
What think ye of Christ? What think ye of the Atonement? Do you understand its personal and eternal significance to you? Are you aware that the Savior's Atonement is key to your happiness, your success in life, your salvation, and your ability to return to the Father from whence you came?
What has Christ done for Me?
His offering is limitless and astonishing; yet somehow the majority of people has missed the message, and gives Him no thought. This is the greatest tragedy in the world, collectively, and especially, individually, because the Atonement is not only universal, but intimately personal and individual.
What has the Atonement done for me?
It has set me free from sin, from guilt, from pride, from fear, from complacency, and from selfishness and self-centeredness. It has taught me who I am. It has empowered me and taught me that, with God, I can do anything. It has imbued me with love for my Savior and for all men. It has given my life purpose, direction, and meaning. It has taught me that I am important, valuable, loved, and that my possibilities and potential are limitless. It has given me a future that is not just bright, but glorious beyond my imagination. It has filled me with faith, hope, and happiness. I experience joy. I am optimistic. I have knowledge. I possess the gift of the Holy ghost, which is the constant presence of the third member of the Godhead, also known as the Comforter. I am comforted. I am animated. I look forward with anticipation to my return to my Maker. Because of Him, and because of the covenants which His Atonement opened to me, I will not only be in eternity with Him, but with my beloved family. Because of Him life is good, and my future glorious.
Pity those who spend their days blinded to the supernal event of all history--and of all eternity--when they could be full partakers of blessings beyond their imaginations.
I am filled with gratitude.
