Where Is the Difference?

I am reading the book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament.  Ezekiel became a prophet shortly after Lehi left Jerusalem.  He was among the captives who were carried away to Babylon from whence he prophesied.

The first 24 chapters of his book are prophecies against the Jewish nation.  He spelled out exactly what would happen to Jerusalem and to the nation, but the people wouldn't listen.  He warned the Jews that Babylon would come, would slay the Jews with the sword, would carry more captives to Babylon, and would destroy Jerusalem and lay it waste.

The Lord had Ezekiel make these dire prophecies against the Jews "because (they have) forgotten me, and cast me behind (their) back ... They have committed adultery ... and have also caused their sons ... to pass ... through the fire."  (Ezekiel 23: 35-37).  The Jews adopted all of the abominations of the people who had inhabited the land before them.  The sins of those nations were so great that the Lord commanded the Israelites to erase those nations.  In spite of this the Israelites embraced all those nations' evil practices, including the sacrificing of their firstborn children to their idol gods.  (Ezekiel 20:26).  Even Manasseh, the king of Judah, followed this practice (2 Kings 21:6), and seduced the Jews "to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel."  (2 Kings 21:9).

I ask, where is the difference between these people and America today?  Our enlightened leaders would scoff at the ignorance of these ancients who sacrificed their babies in the fires of Molech, yet they loudly demand the right to abort their own.  Millions of babies are aborted annually and are sacrificed to the idol gods of lust, greed, ease, and irresponsibility.  The parents of these unfortunate children don't want the responsibility of raising them, but demand the freedom to wantonly practice fornication and adultery.

Where is the difference between them and the worshipers of Molech?  These same people have cast the Lord behind their backs, and ignore Him and His commandments.  How long will the Lord allow such evil before a cleansing again becomes necessary?
